ON THE OTHER HAND, AEROSOL CAN DESTROYERS ARE WREAKING HAVOC IN PARTS OF DOWNTOWN

It’s ugly, nasty, expensive, and has caused a lot of grief for business owners. Vandalzing taggers, armed with aerosol spray cans, paint their scrawls without any regard for private property or the mess they leave behind.

A TORONTO photographer captured on camera one such person (with two lookouts) at work, in the Dundas West neighbourhood.

This business owner has erased tags several times over the last few years and “is getting sick and tired of it.” He’s spent about $500 buying paint. “Where do we draw the line? What can we do with this? I’ve gone to the police, the police haven’t done anything. I understand, they’re busy with real crime but I think the laws have to be enforced…Maybe we can work with (taggers).”

Up to now, our photographer can only buy more water-soluble paint and a roller. But the StreetARToronto program could help some property owners commission large murals for their walls. The hope is that respect amongst artists will deter tagging. Meanwhile, the erasing and spritzing goes on. – photos Global News
