In a telephone survey released by FORUM RESEARCH, 53% of downtowners say it’s hard to get around these days: 16% say ‘no problemo’. Putting it mildly there’s a lot of construction around here – condos, roads, streetcar tracks, office buildings – 30 major projects in and around Yonge Street alone.
“Torontonians are as fed up as Mayor John Tory with these constant lane closures and sidewalk diversions,” Lorne Bozinoff, CEO of Forum Research said. “One has to ask will TORONTO ever be finished?”
The answer to that – The Toronto Region Board of Trade predicts $214-billion worth of planned construction activity in the next 15 years, much of it downtown. It’ll be noisy and inconvenient for quite a while, so we’d better get used to it and stay calm.
