With the exception of a 30-minute sit-in by Black Lives Matter (Honoured Guests of Pride Toronto), the 2016 Pride Parade went off without a hitch as it wound its way along Bloor and Yonge into the city’s core.
Black Lives Matter announced its arrival with a bullhorn and rainbow smoke bombs. Then they staged a sit-in with demands. The crowd got tired of this after a while and the booing began. “Black Lives Matter should think twice about making outsiders of its allies in the fight for inclusion and respect.” – Editorial, Toronto Star, July 5/2016
When the HMCS York marching band struck up “Sweet Caroline” the whole crowd joined in.
Without a doubt, the star of the show was Canada’s Prime Minister JUSTIN TRUDEAU. For the first time ever a sitting Canadian PM took part and he was joined by Ontario Premier KATHLEEN WYNNE and Mayor JOHN TORY. Trudeau said he’s also accepted invites to the Vancouver and Montreal Pride Parades.
To be invited to participate, then hijack the parade, demand more presence, and deny presence to others is disgusting.
