A massive redevelopment project is about to take place at the corner of Bathurst Street and Lakeshore Boulevard West. Once home to Loblaws head office, then a distribution centre for the Daily Bread Food Bank, and now crumbling in the noonday sun, the once handsome structure will disappear and a store/condominium development will take its place. The site will include seven storeys of retail and office space, a 50,000 square foot Loblaws store, and two towers – one at 37 storeys and the other 41. The old building dates back to 1928, and its 100,000 bricks will be removed, cleaned and catalogued – then replaced once the building’s superstructure is secure.
