With his mane of curly hair and constant grin, Winnipeg native DOUG HENNING became one of the most famous illusionists and magicians in the world in the 1970’s and early 80’s. He appeared in three Broadway shows and a dozen television specials, stunning audiences and breathing new life into some of history’s most famous illusions – including Houdini’s ‘Water Torture Escape’ performed live on television. In 1969 Doug was living in the third-floor apartment at 94 Winchester Street in Cabbagetown. He had just finished his undergraduate education and was deciding whether or not to become a surgeon. Later he applied for and successfully received a Canada Council grant to study magic… and the rest is history. At the age of 52, Mr. Henning died in Los Angeles of liver cancer – http://www.cabbagetownpeople.ca
