Spanning the Don: a steel truss bridge on Queen Street East, 1911

TORONTO is a city of bridges, and this one is my favourite.  It’s the Queen Street Viaduct, a steel truss bridge built in 1911, and gateway to RIVERSIDE, a cool neighbourhood of shops, restaurants and antiques.  The banner and clock on the west side were created in 1996 by Eldon Garnet.  From the Bridge, there’s a good view of TORONTO’s prep for the Pan-American Games and the West Donlands.  Streetcar #501 to the Don River.

  1. I’m a fresh graduate of civil engineering so I know the hardships of building this kind of bridge.I really marvel the design of the steel trusses . It is truly elegant and a sight to behold!
