Fort York, National Historic Site, 1793

Fort York is one of the few Canadian fortresses ever to see action.  The Battle of York (i.e. TORONTO, as it was then called) reached its climax here in 1813 during the War of 1812 against the Americans.

Fort York is unique for two other reasons.  It contains Canada’s largest collection of War of 1812 buildings, and it’s located right in the heart of condo land.  This is an inner city historic site, which offers some unusual juxtaposed 19th-21st century views.  Take a tour or just stroll.
